The Ground Itself:
Following the Saddlers’ move from the dilapidated Fellows Park in time for the 1990-91 season, the Bescot Stadium has been the home of the West Midlands’ smallest side. The recent development of the home end at the Bescot has allowed Walsall to have a stand worthy of First Division football. The double-tiered Purple Stand was completed about a year ago, and completely dwarfs the remaining three stands.
Away fans sit opposite in the William Sharp Stand, a small, ‘shed’ style stand that holds 2000 supporters. It is not dissimilar to the two remaining stands, the Banks’s Bitter Stand and H.L. Fellows Stand. Both look much older than they actually are, with a high number of pillars obstructing the views. All three are a similar height and are in need of a makeover.
Parking?
The ground itself has a big car park costing a few quid to park for the match, and there is also street parking in abundance around the stadium area.
Nearest Train Station?
The Bescot has it’s own train stadium only a second away from the away end, served regularly from Birmingham New Street.
Want a drink?
Saddlers Club, within the ground, allows away fans in for a small fee, and with alcohol prohibited within the seating area of the ground, it will get quite busy. Alternatively, the King George V on Wallowes Lane is a good bet. It is about ten minutes away from the stadium, opposite the Morrisons Supermarket (where the old Fellows Ground once stood).
