One to Watch

After the dissapointment of Saturday it's time to try and find some confidence with Wrexham visiting for the Carling Cup.

Wrexham were very much like us last season, having dropped down to the 3rd Division they managed o keep the core of their side and bounce straight back up. Andy Morrel scored 30 goals for them but very much like Hulse Morrell was sold in the summer, to Coventry. Having bounced back into the 2nd division they managed to strengthen their squad with signings like Chris Llewellyn and Chris Armstrong.

On Saturday Wrexham started their division two campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to Chesterfield. Despite having the majority of chances and the better of play they missed the finishing touch to take a goal or two.

Crewe surprisingly have a few Wrexham ties in the team. Captain Brammer played 120 games for the Welsh side before being sold to Vale in 1999. brammer was, as here, the hero at the Racecourse but also received some undue stick from Wrexham supporters.

Another player is Clayton Ince. In 2001 the big Trinidad keeper was on the verge of signing for Wrexham after it appeared Ince was no longer needed. A fee of £50k was agreed between the two clubs and Ince's agent had thrown damaging comments at Dario for the way he treated Ince.

"Clayton's wasted two years of his career sitting on the bench at Crewe, and this is a player who's just been voted best goalkeeper in the Caribbean for the fifth year in succession. Dario Gradi will not even acknowledge that achievement, presumably because he's never played international football. What I'll never understand is why he bought Clayton because he knew he was an international player when he arrived. The lad is now 28-years old and at the peak of his career and he's desperate to play first team football".

Ince will now line up against Wrexham on Tuesday.

Wrexham line up will include Andy Dibble in goals, Carlos Edwards who's rated highly amongst Wrexham fans and in midfield will see Alex Ferguson's son Darren Ferguson.

For the Alex it's been a bumpy ride back down to earth these past couple of days. So much expectation to do well was ruined when Reo-Coker and Tapp smashed two beauties into the top corners of Inces net. Tomorrow will be a chance to get abit of confidence back ahead of a tough game with Ipswich.

Dario is taking the game seriously as he hopes to get a decent cup run and hopefully a big game if we progress.

On the team front it seems that Dean Ashton has recovered from a hamstring strain and will play up front with Steve Jones. Bolton loanee Jonathan Walters is out of the game due to Bolton not wanting him cup tied.

Sorvel and Walker are still injured so it's likely we'll see the mostly the same line up as that we saw at Wimbledon:

Ince; Wright, Foster, Moses, Vaughan; Lunt, Brammer, Cochrane, Rix; Ashton, Jones.

Darren Ferguson
D.o.B
- 09/02/1972
Darren Ferguson, son of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. Plays a massive part in the Wrexham midfielder.

The 31 year old is described as the most influencial and most skillful player at Wrexham. Ferguson is experienced after being with Manchester United when a yougster, he then spent spent five years with Wolves before moving to Dutch club Sparta.

After a few season there Darren moved back to Britain and joined Wrexham. Ferguson now remains Wrexhams most consistant player in the middle.

The one problem is his discipline after he's picked up 30 yellows and 2 reds in the past three season.

Last season he spent 6 weeks out after tearing a cartilage in his knee. The scot is in his final year of his contract this season and will be hoping to impress for a extension next season.

He signed a 2 year contract in 2001 and 7 days later Wigan approached Wrexham with a £400k offer, despite Wrexham accepting the former U-21 Scotland international turned down the move.
