Match Preview - Walsall (Home)

Walsall class the Alex as rivals due to their dislike of Dario. We however dissapoint them with our somewhat ignorance towards them. Whilst they laugh when we lose, we don't care when they lose. It's all down to all their rivals in Birmingham, Villa, Wolves and West Brom being far superior than them.

Crewe and Walsall are both small clubs who both coninue the tradition of being tipped for relegation season after season despite defying the odds season after season. Over the summer it was the same old.

In the summer though Colin Lee, manager of Walsall, has tried to change that. He convinced Paul Merson into taking a 50% wage drop to sign for lowly Walsall. He also added the likes of former Alex loanee Stefan Oakes and Vinny Samways. There is a large mix of youth and experience in the new look Walsall side.

Over the summer they enjoyed pre-season wins against Aston Villa, Kidderminster, Boldmere, Hednesford, Moor Geen and Solihull. They did lose a couple to Northampton and Birmingham though.

Walsall's season has got off to a great start. On the opening day they thrashed West Brom 4-1 at the Bescot. Carlisle were beaten 2-1 in the Carling Cup before a 0-0 draw at Coventry and a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke has seen them sit in 6th place for Monday's game.

The game tomorrow is a game both teams think will be 3 points if they play to their best so both teams will be attacking. The Walsall team will consist of Paul Merson and Stefan Oakes. Walsall may also give a debut to Paul Richie. Other than that Colin Lee may just go with the same team that drew 1-1 at home to Stoke.

Walker; Bazeley, Arandale, Hay, Roper, Oakes, Corica, Leitao, Merson, Emblen & Samways.

For the Alex. Striker Paul Edwards is back to fitness and could see the bench if Jonathan Walters doesn't recover from a gum infection. Anthony Tonkin is set to sign tomorrow, from Stockport for £150k(plus £25k on appearences).He won't play though for another 2 weeks due to fitness. David Wright went off yesterday at Millwall and maybe be replaced by Chris McCready at right back if his leg injury is bad. Richard Walker is still out as is Sorvel.
