Question Time: Plymouth Argyle

Last updated : 09 December 2004 By Simon Turner
ST: What are your ambitions for the season? Survival? Mid-table? The play-offs?

DP: Ultimately our main ambition for this season was always survival, anything else would be a bonus. However as we approach the half way stage then a comfortable mid table finish is not too much to ask. If we can nick a few wins in the latter half of the season and finish higher then no one will be complaining

ST: Bobby Williamson. Is he liked?

DP: Generally he is liked, but a few recent PR faux pas have seen some of the fan base air one or two concerns. However Paul Sturrock was always going to be a tough act to follow, and Williamson maybe needs to make himself a little more "approachable".

ST: Who should we be keeping an eye out for?

DP: With a number of internationals, then they would be the obvious choice. Tony Capaldi in midfield is a superb player, and Steve Crawford finally looks as if his international billing is deserved. However we are more of a team than a few big names collecting large wage packets.

ST: Weak links?

DP: If there are any then it could be the two full backs, David Worrell and Peter Gilbert. Both are great at going forward and linking with the midfielder in front of them but occasionally do look vulnerable if someone takes them on.

ST: Sounds familiar. What do you know of Crewe? Who do you think will trouble you?

DP: The team always used to be in Division 4 when I grew up and seemed destined to stay there. However that has obviously changed in recent years and the reputation is now almost as a nursery club producing good footballers. Obviously the long serving Dario would get a mention, and possibly be held up as an example for other clubs to show what stability can do.

The obvious player for us to nullify would be Dean Ashton, or more importantly wonder what a player who scores as regularly as he does would do to our results....

ST: Best and worst fans you’ve come across so far?

DP: Leeds and Stoke have been the noisiest at our place, whilst the silence of so called big clubs Leicester and Coventry was rather amusing.

ST: Fan’s favourite?

DP: Difficult to say as we are a team rather than one or two individuals. David Friio would probably edge it as he has developed a knack of scoring late, and vital, goals to change results around.

ST: Any parasites on the books that need to be gotten rid of? Any turds that just won't flush round the u-bend?

DP: The obvious one would have to be Blair Sturrock who has tried his luck at a number of League Two clubs but none have taken him on. In an unenviable position since his father left but unfortunately not cut out for this level of football.
Some would also want to get rid of Marino Keith but Keith does have his fans, so this issue is not quite so clear cut.

ST: What do you think of the Plymouth board?

DP: Since they took over the board have done very little wrong. Not everything is perfect but in recent years they have acted to help the club and the fans more than any previous regime. Only a fool would criticise the current board.

ST: Score?

DP: After getting a confidence boosting win last week, I get the feeling we will edge a close game 2-1.
