Shrews up and running

Shrewsbury chalked up their first league win of the season with a 2-0 victory against a Crewe side who still await their first point and their first away goal.

The Shrews took the lead after 22 minutes when Sean McAllister - one of four changes for the home side - tucked a glancing header past Steve Phillips from Lionel Ainsworth's cross.

Shrews were good value for their half-time lead, although Shaun Miller and David Artell should have done better with two clear-cut early chances for Alex.

Phillips was kept busy and did well to keep out two stinging shots and a teasing lob from Mark Wright.

As Crewe got back into the game in the second half, they had young substitute Nick Powell sent off for a studs-first challenge on McAllister.

For Alex, sub Max Clayton hit the post with a header two minutes from the end, before Nicky Wroe got Shrewsbury's second goal after a brilliant solo run in stoppage time.
