Alex off the mark
Crewe claimed their first points of the season after striker Shaun Miller lashed home a first-half winner in a 1-0 victory at Plymouth.
Miller was well placed on the left-hand side of the six yard box to convert Ajay Leitch-Smith's cross from the right in the 42nd minute.
Crewe could have won by more but Leitch-Smith volleyed over from six yards in the 36th minute following Danny Shelley's pin-point free-kick.
It took two brilliant saves from recalled Argyle goalkeeper Romain Larrieu to keep the score down in the second half. The Frenchman reacted brilliantly to tip over Miller's glancing header from another pacy free-kick from Shelley.
Argyle stalwart Larrieu - 35 next week - then made another brilliant stop to block Luke Murphy's pile-driver from the edge of the box. Substitute Antoni Sarcevic should have tucked away the rebound from close range but mis-timed his shot and swept the ball wide.
In the 58th minute David Artell powered a header towards goal from Shelley's corner but the ball struck Miller and looped over the goal.
Argyle's best efforts were a 30-yard screamer from midfielder Simon Walton in the 69th minute which flew just wide, while on-loan Hull winger Will Atkinson forced an early second half save from Alex keeper Steve Phillips.
