Crewe have gone 9 games without defeat and todays win lifts us to just 1 point from the top as it gets tight up in the top 6 or 7. Tranmere were without doubt the toughest test we have faced so far this season and you could say we were flattered with the 2-0 win after lots of early pressure from the Birkenhead club. The action started when Clayton Ince was closed down by Price who jumped to block Ince's clearence, he did that but broke his arm in the process as the ball bounced just pas the post. After a 4 minute stop the game got off to a restart with Andy Parkinson replacing the injured Price.
Tranmere got the first real chance when Haworths chip was parried by Ince and wascleared off the line by Sodj'. Then Haworths header from the resulting corner was only to be cleared off the line by Ben Rix. Crewe first real chance came when Rodney Jack, who has become the player others fear, wiggled his way past the Tranmere defender just in the left corner which gave him an oppitunity to slide it accross the face of the goal for Hulse but Carter got the better of Huse and scrambled it out for a corner. Sodje's bycicle kick from the corner didn't worry Welch though.
In the second half Tranmere were the first to pressurise but after that it seemed to be Crewe, Crewe and Crewe. 12 minutes into the secondhalf came the most bizarre goal. Brammer picked up the ball and crossed it in to 1 red shirt in the box, bang, the ball was in the back of the net with a perfect header from Tranmere defender Tom Cutis. 1-0 to the Alex and Tramere were not going to get another look into the game. Crewe pressurised and it had to come, a foul on Jack. Jack had terrorised the tranmere defence all day and 20 yards out of the area he was tripped and from a Lunt free-kick Hulse got his 6th goal of the season as he headed the ball past Welch after losing his marker. The confidence was sky high and it certainly shut up the 10 vocal Tranmere fans for the day. Crewe weren't going to give up there as it could have been 3 or 4. Sodje could have scored his 2nd leagye footbal goal when his headerwas tipped over thebar by Welch - which resulted in a dislocated shoulder for the nuber 13. Hulse then could have doubled his match goal tally when he ran half of the picth with Roberts trying to chance after him as he ran one on one with substitute Nixon to beat, but his shot from the edge of the area was fingertipped away from the goal by Nixon. Dean Ashton came on and created the only other real chance when his header from a Lunt corner smacked the crossbar. Crewe played out the 4 minutes added on in the corner.
Now we've shown we're good enough to go up lets show Cardiff that you don't need money to win this league!
