Powell continues winning feeling for Crewe
Nick Powell netted his second goal in as many games as Crewe saw off Hereford 1-0 to record back-to-back wins for the first time since September.
The Bulls almost took a second-minute lead as Delroy Facey's wind-assisted looping cross almost caught out goalkeeper Steve Phillips, instead bouncing back off the crossbar.
Powell went close with three spectacular first-half efforts, one which was deflected inches wide by defender Michael Townsend.
Alex winger Byron Moore then slipped in Ajay Leitch-Smith but the youngster's fierce first-time strike clipped the top of the bar.
However, an unmarked Tom Barkhuizen had the best chance of the opening half, the Bulls` top scorer blazing his volley over from 12 yards out.
Harry Pell twice went close for the visitors while Powell was almost on target with a free-kick at the other end.
The forward finally did hit the mark on the hour with a sweet 25-yard right-footed strike into the top corner of the net.
Phillips preserved Crewe's lead with a point-blank save to keep out Barkhuizen's header before Moore failed to put the game to bed after a well-worked move in the Hereford penalty area.
