Promotion chasing Blackpool continued to keep up the pressure with another good home win and opened up a four-point gap on the final play-off place in the process.
A 20-yard wonder-strike from in-form winger Wes Hoolahan gave the Seasiders the lead after just 15 minutes.
His effort left Crewe goalkeeper Ben Williams helplessly watching the ball sail over his head and into his net.
Crewe looked to have hit back quickly with Ryan Lowe hitting home at the back post only for his efforts to be deemed offside.
That was the only real worry for the Seasiders, who enjoyed the lion's share of the chances in the first half with David Fox and Chris Brandon threatening the goal from distance but failing to hit the target.
After the break the Seasiders continued their spell of pressure with Crewe pushed on to the back foot for long spells.
On 56 minutes Claus Jorgensen was unnecessarily felled on the edge of the area and home debutant Robbie Williams stepped up to hit a low free-kick under the wall to give him his second goal in as many weeks for the Tangerines.
Blackpool forced Crewe on to the back foot for the remainder of the half but struggled to find the final touch to kill off the visitors.
Shaun Miller grabbed a last minute consolation for Crewe as he headed past the Blackpool goalkeeper from the edge of the six-yard box, but the home side were good value for their win.
