This season has seen a change for the Academy. Instead of a U-19 and U-17 league they have merged the two together to make a U-18 league, whilst other clubs have blasted the idea Crewe's Stever Holland has remained positive about it.
The first game of the season for the youngsters started in an awful fashion. Theo Walcott scored for Southampton U-18s within three minutes of kick off and five minutes hadn't gone before Wallis-Tayler helped Walcott to his second, the Saints youngster turning in Tayler's header.
After the Alex got a glimmer of hope when Southampton scored an own goal on the 25th minute, the match was all but tied up in the first half when, ten minutes later, Southampton had restored their two goal cushion.
Despite a brave hard fought second half for the Alex, the youngsters came away disappointed. They will now hope to put it behind them against new-academy-boys Cardiff City, at home on Saturday.
