Crewe make the to Yorkshire where they take on York City in the first round of this seasons FA Cup.
Crewe last played against York City away back in 2002 when the two teams faced each other in the League Cup. Although you have to go back twelve years since they met in the league and twenty-two years since they played in the FA Cup at Bootham Crescent.
York City's ground has a capacity of 9,034 where 2,000 can be accommodated with 300 seats available in the Popular Stand.
Where to Drink
There is a supporters club next to the away end where they allow away suporters in with the club selling real ale. Nearest pub to the ground is Burton Stone Inn which in on the A19.
York boast many pubs old and new and one of my faves is the Kings Arms on the banks of the River Ouse which always hit the news when the rivers bursts it banks as the pub is known for getting flooded.
Travel by Train
The railway station is about 15-20 minutes walk away from the ground and is easy to get to. Directions from the Conference Ground Guide 'Leave the station and turn left. At the traffic lights turn left into Station Rise. After the Royal Mail HQ turn right into an alley (Do not go into the tunnel under the railway). The railway is now on your left. Follow the footpath down the alley way, over the foot/rail bridge crossing the river and through the car park all with the railway still on your left. Now go under the railway and turn right immediately. You are now in Bootham Terrace with large terraced houses on your left and the railway on your right. At the top of this slight hill you come to a T junction with Bootham (the A19). Turn left, walk about 100 yards and cross the Zebra crossing. Bootham Crescent is straight ahead.
Travel by Car
Distance from Crewe to York is 122 miles. Take the A19 towards York City Centre and keep going until you get to a pub on your left called the Burton Stone Inn, at which point you turn left into Burton Stone Lane. Then take the first right into Grosvenor Road for the ground.
Arrive early and you can get street parking other wise you may have to use pay and display car parks in the surrounding area.
For the away fan
Away fans are placed in the Grosvenor Road Terrace and the terrace is open to the elements. A small kiosk is available serving refreshments with pie and peas on offer along with burgers and hot dogs. The toilets are much to be desired and you will know what I mean when you visit.
