Wrexham boss targets Higdon.

It seems that Wrexham boss Denis Smith is an admirer of Michael Higdon and would like to take him on loan.

23-year-old Higdon though has been given until the end of the season to prove he has a future at Gresty Road.

Wrexham boss Smith is keen on a loan deal to help the Dragons, who have lost club captain Neil Roberts and Lee McEvilly to long-term injuries. Wrexham had signed former player and ex-Crewe player Juan Ugarte today on an 18-month contract but still feels he need an extra body to help the Dragons push up the table.

Higdon did start the season partnering Luke Rodgers but both players found themselves replaced with Nicky Maynard and Luke Varney, this partnership proved a hit with plenty of goals. Even though the two prolific front men have picked up injuries in recent weeks only Rodgers seems to have grabbed his chance with both hands. Higdon played in the two crushing defeats against Rotherham United and Bradford City and failed to impress boss Dario Gradi.

Gradi told the Sentinel Newspaper "Mike has had trouble transferring his ability into games, but he gets opportunities," said Gradi.

"He has admirers and Denis would take him tomorrow. We wouldn't want that to happen, but if he is not in our plans by the end of the season, I am sure someone else will work with him."
