Alex youngster Luke Varney settled the game with an excellent goal in the 76th minute to condemn the Lions to their fifth away defeat of the season.
Wise told Millwall's official site: "That simply wasn't good enough, and I've let the players know that in the dressing room afterwards.
"We were caught cold in the first minute of the game and from that point we were having to chase it.
"It was simply a question of people not concentrating and not doing what they should be doing. It's all very well battling hard and trying to get back into the game, but we shouldn't have been behind in the first place.
"To come away from Burnley and Crewe and get nothing out of either game is very disappointing."
