With no source or comments to back it up it seems an unlikely prospect but the Welsh media say that because of a dispute between Whalley and Cardiff it will leave the door open for Whalley to re-join Crewe for the third time.
Whalley left Crewe in 1998 after coming through from the Youth System in 1992, he re-joined from Bradford onloan in 2002 but despite being released by Bradford a move never materialised and he signed for Cardiff. After two years Sam Hammam's pockets have been getting shallow, so shallow that the club won't play Whalley because he is one game away from getting a £50,000 bonus.
The rumour seems a load of tosh that the Welsh press have brought back up from May. Dario has clearly stated that there will be no more signings this summer, unless Neil Mellor has a change of heart.
