19-year-old Westwood has really burst onto the scene this season and netted his first professional goal in last weeks 3-2 win over Chesterfield.

Crewe born Westwood came in for Billy Jones who was sent off in the defeat to Bury and has since then moved in to midfield in recent games just showing how versatile the former academy player is.

It was only in April that Westwood signed a two-year deal but his progression at the club has rewarded him with an improved contract.

Westwood told crewealex.net: 'I am delighted to have signed the new contract and it is good for the confidence to know that Dario and the club have faith in me. All I ever wanted to do when I was a younger was to play for Crewe and now that I am it is a real buzz.

'I am really enjoying my football at the moment and the responsibility Dario and Steve Davis have given me in central midfield. The team has improved and are picking up results and we just have to keep that run going now for as long as possible. If we have a good Christmas I am sure we will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
