4: A Jason Koumas corner eludes the Alex defence, and Joost Volmer collects the ball, but his poor effort is blocked by Billy Jones

6: Following Koumas' corner, the ball comes out to Andy Johnson whose venomous volley is dramatically saved by Clayton Ince

7: After intense Albion pressure and a glut of corners, Crewe conceed an early goal, with Swiss international Bernt Haas taking advantage of slack defending and comical goalkeeping from Ince. 1-0

On 17 minutes, the railwaymen hit back with Steve Jones converting his tenth goal of the season after a Kenny Lunt corner fooled the home defence. 1-1

After 25 minutes, Crewe almost made it 2 when stand in captain David Wright found midweek scorer Luke Varney, but his free header was misjudged and flew wide

27: Scot Dobie's cross totally decieves Clayton Ince, but fortunately rolls wide

More Albion pressure as Koumas twists and turns and crosses for Dobie, whose header goes narrowly wide

30 minutes: Steve Foster harshly booked for foul on Scot Dobie

35: Koumas' industrious run and pass gives Rob Hulse a chance to make it 2-1, but the ex-Crewe man puts it wide

38: A great block from Chris McCready denies Hulse a shot at Ince's goal after Hulse skilfully beat the young defender

40: The inspirational Koumas continues to trouble the visiting defence, forcing a good save from Ince after a run and shot

42: Billy Jones goes off with a head wound, replaced by Adie Moses. David Wright moves upto central midfield, with Chris McCready reverting to right back

44: Scot Dobie's long range shot is saved by Clayton Ince low to his right after he saw it late.

45: David Wright scores for Crewe after Moses found Steve Jones wide right. The Ulsterman's cross found Dean Ashton, who nodded down for the captain to fire home. 1-2

Almost immediately, the Baggies have a penalty claim turned down after Ince is in no mans land following the goal

Referee Mark Halsey blows the half time whistle to the delight of the Alex fans. Half time: West Bromwich Albion 1 - 2 Crewe Alexandra

The teams return to the pitch and two early crosses from Haas and Robinson respectively fly harmlessly over Ince's goal.

48: Jones and Ashton combine well to set up Tonkin, whose great run and cross directed at Varney was well cleared by Volmer to deny a certain goal

51: Macedonia captain Artem Sakiri replaces James O'Connor for Albion, as the Baggies revert to a 4-4-2 formation

54: Clayton Ince's awful clearance after Tonkin had superbly denied Johnson goes straight to Koumas, but he pushes Dean Ashton in the process, and referee Halsey fortunately blows for a free kick.

Neil Baker's furious reaction to Ince's clearance sums up the Carribean keeper's below par performance

57: Rob Hulse does well down the left hand side to shrug off McCready, but his weak cross is easily gathered by Ince

61: Lee Hughes replaces Scot Dobie for Albion as Gary Megson searches for a goal

63: Sakiri picks up Andy Johnson's long ball and a great Ince save denies the Macedonian's left foot shot

The visiting keeper makes a great point blank save from old boy Hulse from Sakiri's corner. Hulse heads over after a Koumas cross

65: Good play from Ashton results in a Crewe corner. The corner is easily hacked away by Gaardsoe

67: Koumas robs Moses, but his shot eighteen yards out is easily saved by Ince

72: The unmarked Sean Gregan scores for Albion after casual marking from Cochrane lets the home skipper in to tap home. 2-2

78: Lunt plays Varney through, but the twenty-one year old puts it inches wide of Hoult's right hand post

81: Foster denies Hughes at the expense of a corner after Moses misjudges a Hoult long ball. The corner comes to nothing with Ince at hand to claim it

82: Lunt and Jones work well to set up Ashton, but the youngster is upended by Volmer to win a free kick for Crewe. Kenny Lunt's shot sails harmlessly over the bar

84: McCready denies Artem Sakiri following Thomas Gaardsoe's cross. Lee Hughes' subsequent shot is cleared by the young defender

88: Sakiri wastes a good opportunity after Komas found him in space. The ball ends up in the away end. Seconds later Rob Hulse misses a great chance, driving an effort well wide.

89: Albion win a corner, but Hughes' header harmlessly finds its way into Ince's hands

90: The fouth official signals 3 minutes of added time to be played

93: Luke Varney wins the ball off Koumas, and runs into the penalty area until Volmer dispatches him

The referee blows the final whistle, with the score an excellent result for the reds, West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Crewe Alexandra
