Vaughany unused as Welsh hopes crushed in Cardiff

The twenty-year old Alex idol didn't even make the substitute's bench as Darren Barnard and Ryan Giggs continued on the left hand side for Wales. Maybe Hughes is ruing this decision as it was Barnard's silly mistake that lead to Vadim Evseev's decisive goal after 21 minutes. Giggs was virtually a bystander as Wales yet again failed to make a major championships since the 1958 World cup.

However, he is odds on to retain his left midfield role for Crewe this weekend as Sunderland are welcomed to Gresty Road on Saturday. He will report to training tomorrow and probably be assessed for the game, but as he hasn't played over the two legs against Russia, he is pretty certain to play.
