Vaughany Praised by Wales U-21 Manager

Vaughany has been a regular in the Alex first team for the past few years now. Showing off his natural skill, you only have to watch him pass 6 Cardiff players with pace and skill before working the keeper into a parried save leading to a corner. He's played at all levels for the Welsh squad but at just 19 Vaughan is now trying to establish himself in Mark hughes' squad.

He's been there once before but that was by default as the whole first team were rest. He impressed though with rave reviews from Wales fans and the media. As Vaughany prepares and hopes for his home debut as a full Welsh international the U-21s manager, Jimmy Shoulder, can't praise Vaughany enough...

"It is pleasing that David has been promoted to the senior squad this weekend, I have been a big admirer of his for a long time. He has the technique to operate at the highest level but also a great temperament.

"Against him is that he is not the most physical or powerful, but he is developing in that department. What he has also learned is how to make the best use of what he has, so he copes quite well. He is no six-footer, but he is the one technically and mentally to go further."

Vaughany is in the 23 man Wales squad ahead of Saturday's Euro 2004 qualifier, Wales already have a play-off spot but a win, and hope that Italy fail to copy that, would see them through to Portugal automatically. It's unlikely Vaughan will start with Wales captain Gary Speed at left back and Ryan Giggs, whoever he is, on the left wing. You never know, he may be on the bench.

Steve Jones looks set to start for Northern Ireland after both Keith Gillespie and Paul McVeigh pulled out of the squad. They were the two players who kept Jonah out of the starting 11. Without a goal in 14 Northern Ireland will be relying on Jones and his team mates to end that unwanted European record. Lets hope Jones has something to prove to Baker.

Dean Ashton will be in action with a inexperienced England U-21s side tonight. With Euro 2004 qualifying a distant memory and manager David Platt hanging onto his job with the thinnest of threads all England can do is play for pride in Istanbul tonight.

With Deano's starting place at Gresty Road under serious threat this week he will have to impress Neil Baker a hell of alot to line up along side Barrowman. Kick off is at 4pm TONIGHT on SKYSPORTS, see if Dean has a place in the England squad.
