Vaughan has only 1 full Welsh cap when he played in a very weak squad in the USA. Vaughan has though been called up for the full Wales squad a couple of times before.
Mark Hughes has today called up Vaughan for the game in Wales vs Serbia. It comes just a week after Neil Baker called for Mark Hughes to call Vaughan up for the full Welsh squad.
Wales have secured a play-off place in the Euro 2004 qualifiers but should Finland beat Italy and Wales win then they win the group. Unfortunately the match vs Serbia takes place on the same day as Sheff Utd, so vaughan will miss that game.
Vaughan also joins three of Saturday's opponents:
Goalkeeper: Danny Coyne (Leicester City), Mark Crossley (Fulham), Paul Jones (Southampton), Darren Ward (Nottm Forest)
Defenders: Darren Barnard (Grimsby Town), Mark Delaney (Aston Villa), Rob Edwards (Aston Villa), Danny Gabbidon (Cardiff City), Andy Melville (Fulham), Robert Page (Sheff United), Gary Speed (Newcastle, capt), Kit Symons (Crystal Palace), Paul Trollope (Northampton Town), Rhys Weston (Cardiff City), Adrian William (Reading)
Midfielders: Simon Davies (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Giggs (Man United), Andy Johnson (West Brom), John Oster (Sunderland), Mark Pembridge (Fulham), Carl Robinson (Portsmouth), Robbie Savage (Birmingham City), David Vaughan (Crewe Alex)
