The former non-league star signed from Quorn in the summer of 2003 and not many thought he'd figure for a couple of season's but the 20 year old got his chance and surprised Alex fans. His performances didn't look out of place in Division One and that's what won Dario over as he became a permanent fixture in the squad. After scoring the one goal from the wing it was unfortunate for the ever improving Varney that he should pick up a season threatening injury.
In the FA Cup 3rd Round against Telford Varney was tackled to the floor and in the process dislocated a troublesome shoulder. Varney has had surgery and after 3 months out he could return to action this week, but there is a chance Dario will want a weeks more training under his belt...
"Luke is busting a gut to play and he should do before the end of the season. He saw a specialist in Oswestry this week and he should be able to step up his work. Once we are confident he can roll on his shoulder, I would be happy to put him back in."
Varney joins Wright and Brammer in returning to fitness. The vice captain and captain will both be included on Saturday, but Brammer may have to settle for a place on the bench for the first time since his debut against Grimsby in 2001.
