Valuation nearly met for Maynard.

Although Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton has gone on record by saying he will not pay over the odds for the Winsford born striker.

The Tractorboys have been linked all close season with the Alex striker and are one many clubs that have shown in the striker. Other teams that have been linked with player in recent months include Bristol City, Hull City, Fulham, Middlesbrough, Stoke City and West Brom to name a few.

Steve Holland said this week he is dreading the phone call that could see Maynard move away from the Alexandra Stadium.
Hollland told reporters

"We have got a valuation and if it is met, we would put the option to Nicky. We have to, that was the promise we made when he signed his extension and he trusts us.

"If he was beating down the door to go and the fee wasn't quite right, we'd have to deal with it. But at this stage he seems fine with it all.

"Ideally, he has a good season with us and has loads of options at the end of it. No one has met the valuation but one club has got close and Nick is aware of that."

Meanwhile Ipswich boss Magilton "Nicky is someone we like and someone we feel has a lot of potential but it may be that Crewe prices him out of the market.

"It is an inflated market as we know and no disrespect to any lads that have gone for big money but look at the prices paid for Iain Hume and Martin Paterson.

"Championship clubs are spending money and in order to be in the mix we need to spend. We are not frightened of doing that but we have to make sure it is the right one.

"Nicky has scored a lot of goals at that level and it could be he can step up - it is something we have to consider.

"But either way we are not going to pay over the odds for any player."

It is felt that Maynard may stay at least until January or even to next summer but either way the club would not stand in the players way if he wanted to move.
