Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he will bring a strong side to Gresty Road for the Carling Cup match this Wednesday.

Mikael Silvestre and Gabriel Heinze look to start in defence after the two players recovered fro injuries. Between the sticks will be Polish International Tomasz Kuszczak who signed from West Brom on a four-year deal with the first year being a loan. England International Wes Brown will also have a run out along with fellow England compatriot Kieran Richardson.

Former Leeds United player and England International Alan Smith will play as he looks to gain more match fitness after being out with a broken leg and dislocated ankle. Smith was told he would be out for a year but has defied medics with a quick return.

Crewe will have to be on their guard this time again with Smith, it was him that stole the show two years ago when the two teams last met. That night United cruised to a 3-0 win with Smith netting the first goal; Liam Millar got the second with Stephen Foster scoring an own-goal.
United boss Ferguson will also play some reserve players, in midfield Ritchie Jones and David Jones look set for a run out.
