Dario Gradi has earmarked two centre-halves to bring to the club. There has been a problem at central defence for a while now which has a tendancy to rear itself whenever injuries to our central defenders occur.
The first of these targets is Paul Robinson, a young defender from Millwall. Robinson made 7 appearances for Millwall last season and scored in the 1-1 draw against Leeds. However, he was later loaned out to Torquay where he made 12 appearances although he picked up 6 bookings in that time. It is rumoured that it would take a fee in the region of 100k for the 6'1 defender as Millwall continue to offload players in an attempt to ease their financial troubles and reduce their wage bill.
The other target is Gerard Piqué from Man Utd. The Spanish defender began his career with Barcelona who were extremely upset to see him leave for Old Trafford. The 6'2 defender made a cameo appearance against Crewe in the League Cup match at Gresty Road and is very highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson. Any deal would simply be a loan deal and it would not be possible to make the deal permanent as Pique is, quite frankly, too good to sign for us on a permanent basis.
It is believed that Dario has made Paul Robinson his primary target as he prefers the permanent option but if this is not possible then Dario is likely to bring in Piqué on loan for the season.
