Crewe have already have had a torrid time in the transfer market with the club missing out on Stuart Fleetwood (Forest Green Rovers), Damien Spencer (Cheltenham Town), Alan O'Brien (Hibs), Andy Bishop (Bury) and Lee Holmes(Derby County).
With the dissapointment the club have turned to other irons that are in the fire.
Sam Vokes is one that has been mentioned very strongly with the Railwaymen now offering £175k for the 18-year-old, although Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond dismisses that a bid has been placed. Crewe could however face competition from Bristol City (here we go again), Watford and Doncaster Rovers for the highly rated striker.
Anthony Elding is another striker that Crewe have watched on numerios occasions which included more recently his goal for Stockport against Chesterfield on Tuesday. Yet again rumour is that Crewe will more than match and even better any offer that Hartlepool offer with the Railwaymen prepared to offer £150k for the former Boston United striker.
Steve Jones could join on loan although the player has been injured but with Burnley signing Andrew Cole and with Owen Coyle looking for more sigings before the deadline a move for the former player looks more than likely.
John Hartson now that Big John has had his contract paid up at WBA and with the Railwaymen being linked with the former Welsh International a move could not be ruled out although Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City are still also linked with the big stiker.
Kenny Lunt former midfielder Lunt looks surplus at Hillsborough and does not look to be in the plans of Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws. No doubt Lunt will return to Crewe someday but could it be earlier than expected.
