He made his debut against Northampton Town in November 2009 after starting in the left-back position. Tootle's reward for some impressive displays was an improved contract which tied him at the club until 2012.
Tootle made 28 appearances last season netting one goal in the 2-2 draw against Rochdale on Boxing Day.
His displays has prompted the club to offer the defender an improved deal that extends his stay at the club until 2013.
With John Brayford departing for Derby County, Tootle will switch to his more accustomed position of right-back for the forth coming season.
