Forest Green Rovers manager Jim Harvey has swooped for former Crewe left-back Anthony Tonkin.

27-year-old Tonkin left Crewe last summer after the Cornishman spent three years at Gresty Road. He signed for the Railwaymen for £150k from local neighbours Stockport County and went on to make over 100 appearances.
After his release Tonkin rejoined his boyhood club Yeovil Town but found it hard to break into the team and was loaned out to Grays Athletic.

After his release during the summer Tonkin has had numerios trials and more recently was at League Two side Lincoln City.

Former Crewe player and now manager of Forest Green Jim Harvey told BBC Gloucestershire:"I've been talking to Anthony for a couple of weeks now and for me, this lad would be the best left back in the Conference.

"He played against us last year (for Grays) and played extremely well and of course I know him from years ago when he was at Yeovil - he's a very talented athlete and I think it's a really big coup for the club.

"He knows a couple of the players here, but he was just out of work and he wanted to play and there you go, I think we've got quite lucky this time. He lives down our neck of the woods, or further on down in to the south West so it's not too far from home for him and we're delighted to have him.

"That's it, our squad's complete now and I'm very happy with everything that we've got and the way pre season's going, we're very happy. There's another couple of weeks to go before the season starts and we're building up nicely in preparation for that and I'm very happy with the numbers and the quality at the moment."
