Crewe will face a home tie against last seasons FA Cup semi-finalists and Championship side Barnsley in the Carling Cup with the game due to take place w/c 11th August 2008.
The draw will see a former player back at Gresty Road in the shape of Stephen Foster who left back in 2006 when he joined Burnley on a free transfer.
Foster found it difficult to break into the first team at Turf Moor and moved over the Pennines to Barnsley in a £100k deal back in August 2008.
Since his move to the Tykes Fozzie became a pivitol player in defence and netted the first goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup as the Tykes won 2-1 and progressed to the FA Cup semi-final where they lost to Cardiff City.
The Railwaymen will be looking to progress through to the next round after they lost 3-0 at home to Hull City in the Carling Cup last season.
