Oakes joined onloan from Leicester city towards the end of last season and became a hit with the fans. The left sided midfielder was simply a class above every other Division Two player, except David Vaughan ofcourse.
He won more fans over when he said he would take a pay cut just to join Crewe for next season but Dario said thanks but no thanks and he was turned away.
Leicester had told him he wouldn't be getting a new contract this summer, way back in February, so he was always free to leave.
He is a player who would be great to have with us but with Dario wanting vaughan to play on the wing, rather than at the back, there wasn't a chance in hell that Oakes would come here to sit on the bench.
It is surprising to see a player of Oakes' quality to end up at a club(and town) like Walsall, but i suppose alot of players do have to make massive sacrifices these days.
