Spaniard To Sign?

Ugarte

The club's attempts to bring Juan Ugarte to Crewe look to have been successful. Ugarte, who is currently away on holiday, has been subject of interest from a number of clubs including Leeds, Sheff Utd, Cardiff, Oldham and Coventry. However, a number of factors have worked in Crewe's favour as Ugarte has recently bought a £300,000 house in Cheshire and is reluctant to move again. Another factor which has worked in our favour is Ugarte's desire to stay close to his dear friend Xabi Alonso meaning that he has snubbed interest from various clubs largely due to their location.

Despite the widespread interest in the player, it is believed that only two clubs got as far as offering the 5'10 striker a contract. These two clubs are Crewe and Cardiff although despite the fact that Cardiff were offering double the money, Ugarte was rumoured to be ready to spurn the offer from the Bluebirds. However, no such decision was required as common sense prevailed at the FA, (yes, you did just read that correctly) who forced Cardiff to withdraw their offer due to their current inability to regularly pay their players wages.

Last week, Dario faxed him a copy of the contract on offer which Ugarte promised he would sign on return from his holiday, although this was put into jeopardy by late interest from Coventry. However, Coventry boss Micky Adams has since dropped his interest in the striker making our chances of signing him all the more promising. It is rumoured that the striker returned from his holiday on Thursday of last week and he could sign early next week.

Situations similar to this have occured before where a player has said he will sign, such as Aki Rihilati and Tommy Miller, before receiving a more lucrative offer elsewhere and signing there.
