27-year-old Colliis made 21 appearances for the Shrimpers last season with his last appearance coming the 1-0 home defeat to Bristol Rovers on New Years Day.
Collis had signed from Yeovil Town back in 2006 but only made one start during the 2006-2007 season.
During his career Collis has played for Nottingham Forest, Tiverton Town, Aldershot Town (on loan) and his birth place of Barnet.
With Crewe boss Steve Holland on holiday, Dario Gradi instead has held talks with the 6ft 3in keeper and Gradi feels bullish that the keeper will sign and take the number one jersey for next season.
Gradi told the official site www.crewealex.net 'I met with Steve (Collis) and his agent, who is Rachel Anderson. She has been an agent for many years and is what I call a proper agent. They knew all about the finance before they came up and the big attraction for him is becoming our number one.
'He has gone away to think things over because his young family would have to move up to the area,.
'I am optimistic of a deal being done, but my experience tells me that you can never be totally sure. If he doesn't come then he have others to consider and we have a very good one, who we could bring in on a long-term loan up our sleeve.'
