The last-minute mayhem of deadline day may be perfect for Sky Sports News' team of roving reporters, hanging round the gates of football grounds across the country until late into the night, but for clubs who want to start the season with a settled squad it is a nightmare.
Here are just a few of the comments made by managers on the subject recently...
"There is a question about the window being closed before we kick off the Premier League season. I know the Premier League asked the European leagues to do it and they wouldn't fall in line, but after the summer we have had, the situations we have had, with Rooney as well, it is definitely something they need to put under the microscope again." - Alan Pardew, Newcastle United.
"I repeat many, many times that the transfer window should be over before the season starts because it is a little bit destabilising once the season has started – to be there talking about what is not really important in football." - Arsene Wenger, Arsenal.
"It is becoming a bit of a footballing circus and it is not helping anyone. I am sure the authorities will look at it and do something about it. There is a lot of speculation and stories, but once you have important games to prepare for, it is a bit of a farcical position that goes against the values we are trying to present in the Premier League." - Roberto Martinez, Everton.
What do you think? Would you like to see the transfer window closed ahead of the start of the new season?
