Mellor has been tracked by Crewe for a few months, after a summer of him signing and pulling out of a loan move to Gresty Road. Only this week Dario finally put to rest any possibility of signing Mellor in the near future by telling the press that Mellor isn't needed at the moment.
Today Rotherham stepped in and tried to steal Mellor whilst we took a backseat, but their attempts were muted before long. Liverpool told them that Neil Mellor wasn't available, as Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore explains;
"We did enquire about Neil Mellor but at this present time Liverpool aren't willing to let him go."
Mellor remains a long term target for Crewe but at the moment Liverpool see him as a potential first team player.
