The Chester born midfielder was due to be out of contract next summer but the club have moved swiftly to tie to the club until 2009.
Roberts made his debut back in December 2003 but it was not until last season were he made his mark by making 34 appearances last season in the Championship.
This season he has formed a partnership in the middle of the park this season with Michael O'Connor who to extended his contract last week with the Alex.
Roberts has worked his way through the youth and academy setup and signed pro forms back in February 2004 on his birthday he also has represented England at youth levels from U-17 to U-19.
