25-year-old Rix only made seven appearances this season and with the emergence of Luke Murphy and Jame Bailey he has found it hard to break back into the first team.
Wolverhampton born Rix had been at the for some years having come through the academy and making over 150 appearances for the Railwaymen.
Rix in recent years has also had loan spells at AFC Bournmouth and Scarborough after coming back from injury.
Club Chairman John Bowler spoke to www.crewealex.net about Rix's departure: "He has been a fine servant for the Football Club. He hasn't been able to establish himself in the first-team as much as he would have liked and now feels he needs a fresh challenge elsewhere.
"I would like to thank Ben for his long service and wish him every success with his career. He will always been welcome here at Crewe Alexandra."
