Owen who had been on loan at League Two side Port Vale but has been told he has no future at Edgely Park.

Owen made five appearances from the Valliant's and they did appear to be favourites to sign him but not it seems that the Railwaymen will look to do a deal with Stockport County.

It is believed that a nominal fee will secure the services of the former Stoke City defender who did play under Gudjon Thordarson in 2000-2001.

Neil Baker told the Stoke Sentinel 'We did try to sign Gareth when he initially went to Vale. We didn't receive any reason why he didn't come, but perhaps it was because Port Vale were willing to offer him a longer deal.
