20-year-old Jones who will sign for Preston when his current contract expires at the end of June had interest from other clubs but opted for a four deal at Deepdale.
Preston's chairman Derek Shaw has already tested the Crewe board with a £400k offer which is well below Crewe's valuation of the versatile player.
The Railwaymen already turned down a £600k bid for the player in January from near neighbours Stoke City and the board and management at Crewe value the player higher.
If Preston and Crewe fail to agree a fee then it would have to be settled via a tribunal, Crewe will hope for a decent fee and then extra money from appearances and no doubt a sell on clause.
