Crewe boss Dario Gradi will look to step up his search for a centre half after missing out on Ryan Cresswell.

The 22-year-old Rotherham born defender looks set to join his home town club on a two-year-deal having already had a loan spell back in 2007.

He started his career at Sheffield United coming through the youth ranks but never made an appearance for the Blades.

Cresswell joined Bury in 2008 notching up 53 appearances for the Shakers over the last two seasons.

So it looks like it's back to the drawing board for a defender for which in the last few seasons has been Crewe's achilles heel.
