Crewe Mad can exclusively reveal that the club is actively looking for some serious investment for the club.
Now that exact facts are not quite clear it seems the clubs board is looking for some sort of cash injection to the club.
Former First Team Coach Steve Holland spent £700k on transfers during the summer and with signing on fees the club has spent near on £1m, add the fact that the academy costs £500k-£600k per year and that the management team costs the club around £400k and that's a good part of £2m being spent.
Now that Steve Holland has been relieved of his duties the club would have had to pay compensation and the clubs wage bill is near on £1.5m again the club has really splashed the cash.
With the money being spent on the new signings and the club hoping for a decent start to the season and challenging for the promotion it seems to have backfired on the club.
A poor start to the season and with the club being rooted to the bottom of League One the club has seen attendances drop some 17% from last season. The average for 2007/08 was 4.932 way down from the 7,400 which was seen few years back in the Championship, this season alone the clubs average is at 4,082 and this was only boosted last week with the visit of Stockport County.
With falling attendances and a wage bill still more or less the same the club seems to be looking for some extra funding especially with no potential big money sales in players on the horizon.
Two avenues the club could be looking at is a potential share issue to raise extra revenue for the club during these hard times or the other option is looking for some investment from someone/group outside the club either option would be hard with the present economical climate.
Only a few years ago two members of the board were looking to sell there shares with a mooted £4m asking price, but no offers came about even though adverts were placed in Asian newspapers.
