Railwaymen could snap up a Baggies takeaway.

With the loan window due to close next Thursday Crewe First Team Manager Steve Holland is still looking to bolster his squad for the last eight games.

23-year-old MacDonald has just returned from a loan spell at League Two team Hereford United where he netted six goals in seven games for the Bulls.

MacDonald signed for the Baggies in January for £200k from AGOVV Apeldoom after impressing during a long term loan at the Hawthorns.

Holland told the Stoke Sentinel "We don't want to leave ourselves thin on the ground,"

"You are only ever a game away from a couple of problems, so we will need to get the balance right in making sure we are covered for the run-in.

"McDonald is one of several players that most clubs in our league and the league above will be monitoring and looking at. He did well at Hereford and he is a player we have watched along with many others, so we will see what the next eight or nine days brings."

With the likely chance of Ipswich Town winger Gary Roberts not returning due to injury problems with the first team at Portman Road and former player Steve Jones only just started training with Burnley after a long layoff, MacDonald could be a shrewd move for the Railwaymen.
