It is believed that Abbey has held talks with the club and is close to signing for the Railwaymen.
29-year-old Abbey was released by Valiant boss Martin Foyle last season after he spent two and half years with the Staffordshire club.
Nigerian born Abbey started his career with Macclesfield Town making around 100 appearances for the Silkmen over a five year period.
