Quiet Day In The Office

The Football League transfer deadline closed today and without many shocks. Michael Symes has become Crewe's last signing of the season, he signed a one month loan deal yesterday. Loan deals can be extended after the transfer deadline so Hignett, Symes and Williams could still play the rest of the season.

There was only one mover in Crewe, Matthew Platt has gone to Runcorn onloan for the rest of the season. Platt needs the valuable first team football after being too old to play for the youth teams this season.

Meanwhile, a few former Alex players found new clubs today. Marcus Bignot left Rushden and Diamonds for a return to QPR. Bignot left Crewe on a free in 2000 for Bristol Rovers, he left for QPR after just 26 games and even became coach of the QPR womens team. He left QPR in 2002 on a free and signed for Rushden and Dimonds but Marcus, who's brother is in the Alex academy team, re-signed for QPR today.

Former Alex striker Dele Adebola today signed onloan for Burnley. The Nigerian had his best spell of his career after breaking into the Alex squad from the youth team, scoring 40 goals in 96 games. He had a fairly decent spell at Birmingham, where he moved for £1million, with 39 goals in 80 games but a dreadful knee injury saw his career go down hill. Oldham, Palace and Coventry have tried to resurrect his career but just 7 goals in 52 appearances shows it isn't working out. Stan Ternent hopes to bring out his best form again.

Colin Little also left his club, Macclesfield, for Halifax after a fall out with manager David Moss. Former Alex loanee Jon Newby went on loan from Huddersfield to York.

Meanwhile, last weeks Alex target Paul Gerrard has signed onloan for Saturday's opponents Nottingham Forest. The Evertonian keeper may well go into their starting line up. Forest also missed out on loaning their former legend David Prutton from Southampton, who they sold him to for £2.5million in January 2003.
