Preston Firm Up Jonah Interest

Trying to attract Jonah's attention

Preston have contacted Crewe boss Dario Gradi with regards to a January move for striker Steve Jones. Preston boss Billy Davies has reportedly decided to announce his admiration for the Northern Ireland international through the media. Davies is reported to have said, "He's a player we admire and a player we like. We have made phone calls over him."

Should the FA have any consistency amongst their ranks, which seems unlikely, Davies should be in line for a fine for trying to unsettle a player. David O'Leary was fined for just that for attempting to unsette James Beattie whilst at Southampton. However, it seems unlikely that any action will be taken though Davies has lost a lot of respect from opposite number Dario Gradi who said, "I'm a bit annoyed that these quotes are appearing in the media."

Preston's verbal bid for Jonah is a straight player swap with no cash. There is no concrete evidence as to who that player is though it is expected to be one of Andy Smith, Eric Skora, Alan McCormack, Michael Brown, Mark Jackson or Chris Neal.

Davies has since denied making such comments though he has confirmed that he enquired whether or not a player swap would be acceptable.
