The former Biddulph Victoria striker only had only a year left on his contract and would of been a free agent come the summer.

23-year-old Pope signed for the Railwaymen back in 2005 after signing for a nominal fee from Biddulph Victoria. Since then Pope has had loan spells at Barrow, Stafford Rangers and Lancaster City back in 2005 and 2006.

Pope made his Alex debut in March 2007 away at Gillingham and the following season netted seven goals to finish second top goal scorer at the club behind Nicky Maynard.

At first the club only offered a one-year deal which was rejected by Pope now the club seems to have done the decent thing and offer him a two-year deal.

Pope is the clubs top scorer with five goals this season but has found it hard in recent weeks to get back into the first team. Only this week Pope netted twice in a reserve game against Macclesfield Town.

"I want to stay here because Crewe is a great club and I'm learning something every day and I feel I'm improving all the time.

"Crewe have brought me this far and I see no reason why I can't go further with them."

Steve Holland to the official site "We are delighted that tom has agreed to sign his new deal. It was a fairly straight forward conversation and we just had to make one or two adjustements to come to an agreement.
