Platty Returns

Platty returned to the training ground this week to take up some training sessions with the players. He helped the coaching staff out after Dario accepted his request to come and spend a day at the club whilst he remains unemployed.

Platt was recently sacked from England U-21s after two years in the job, and after previous managerial jobs at Sampdoria and Nottingham Forest. The midfielder made his mark on the Alex after signing from Man Utd as a 19 year old, he became Crewe's all time scoring post-war record holder with 61 goals but that record was snatched away from him on Tuesday - Dean Ashton scored his 63rd in his three year deal.

Dario told CreweAlex.net he was delighted to see Platt back at Crewe, but there is not feasible long term option to keep him as a coach - but he may come in on the odd day;

"David wrote to me asking if he could come in and take a session and we were delighted to have him up at the training ground this week. He took shooting practice and it was something different to what we would normally do, so that is good for the players.

"Regardless of what the press say about him, David is a good coach. I've worked with him on the pro-licence course and you can see that he is enthusiastic and keen to learn.

"David isn't working at the moment and just wanted to join in. I'm sure we will come again in the future and take some more sessions. "It is only a short-term thing because we don't have a vacancy or the need for another permanent coach. It was just something different for the players and he gave us a bright session."
