Platt main contender for Crewe boss?

42-year-old Platty looks set to return to the club since his departure to Aston Villa back in 1987.

Oldham born Platt who lives locally joined Crewe back in 1985 after being released from Manchester United and soon made a name for himself by scoring goals for the Railwaymen, during his three years he netted 56 goals in 134 appearances.

He joined Aston Villa for then a record fee of £200k and netted 50 goals for the Villans in 121 games and he netted the PFA Player of the Year award back in 1990.

Platt then left Villa and played in Italy turning out for Juventus, Bari and Sampdoria between 1991-1995 before he came back to England and joining Arsenal where he ended his career in 1998 and announced his retirement.

Platt also won 62 caps for England and netted 27 times during a seven year period.

In 1998 Platt went back to Italy to Coach Serie A side Sampdoria who he played for a few years earlier but his role as head coach was ended prematurely as he did not have the proper qualifications.

In July 1999 Platt became Nottingham Forest's manager after they had been relegated to the Championship and actually made a comeback playing three times for Forest. Many Forest fans see Platt as unpopular and blame him for the clubs relegation and plunging the club into severe debt.

In 2001 Platt was installed as the manager of the England U-21 team, Platt guided England to the U-21 European Championships in 2002 but in 2004 Platt left the England set up after he failed to qualify.

Since then David Platt has been see on Sky as a soccer pundit and has also has a regular article in 4-4-2.
