Crewe Alexandra have taken Biddulph Victoria's Tom Pope on a week's trial. The 19 year-old striker is nearing in on last season's tally of 15 having already struck 12 league goals. The youngster also enjoyed a good pre-season, which included a goal against Port Vale.

Crewe's Assistant Manager Neil Baker revealed, "Tom has been recommended to us by a few different people and so he will spend the next week with us so we can have a look at him. We have absolutely nothing to lose so we'll see how things go."

Biddulph Victoria play in the same division as Luke Varney's former club Quorn, and Varney struck 40 goals in a season so it will be interesting to see how Pope compares.
