Nantwich Town 1 - 3 Crewe Alex XI
Last updated : 12 July 2006 By ChalkDust
With a crowd in the region of 750 coming to watch the local derby it was Crewe that made the bright start. Higdon did the hard work in the early exchanges and his perseverance and cross set up live wire Luke Rodgers to stab home. After that it was Higdon who went close with Rob Hackney pulling a fine save a few minutes later. Crewe were rarely troubled in the first half with Williams having very little to do although a shot from Nantwich did go wide late on in the first half. Trailist Hassam Wissam looked steady and he shaved the cross bar before the break with a 20 yard shot.
Second half brought one change with Bas Savage coming on for Higdon and within a few minutes Crewe had gained a penalty with Bas Savage being tripped inside the box, this was tucked away by Luke Rodgers to make it two for the evening. More changes were made and a Crewe still created chances with out really troubling the Nantwich keeper. A smart move on the left of the field and with Savage involved the ball fell to Lowe who tucked home Crewe's third of the evening. Nantwich did create some pressure late on in the second half and a foul by Wissam on Scheuber gave Nantwich a free kick. Local lad James Marrow stepped up scored albeit from a slight deflection off the wall.
Madjid Bougerra came to watch over his good friend Hassam Wissam and also seen tonight at Jackson Ave was Kenny Lunt taking in the game after his summer departure to Sheff Weds.
