Alsager born Murphy like so many players at Crewe has progressed through the academy ranks and signed professional forms back in 2008. He made his first senior appearance as a sub in Crewe's 1-0 home win over Swindon Town and then made his first full appearance in the 4-1 away win at Hartlepool where he also notched his first senior goal.
This season Murphy has made 21 appereances scoring 3 goals in the process as well as numerious assists.
