The seventeen year old was thought to be suffering from a groin injury at Everton's summer training camp in Austria, but boss David Moyes has told Dario Gradi that he intends to bring the teenager to Gresty Road.

CreweAlex.com reported a while ago that the testimonial committee were contemplating contacting Everton about the possibility of bringing Rooney, but Moyes has confirmed that he will come.

"He is desperate to train and we are actually trying to hold him back right now, he is fine. We will get him back into training and hopefully he will have no reaction to it", said the former Preston North End boss.

The game's ticket sales were so far behind that of Liverpool's that the club needed a boost to celebrate the ten year Alex careers of Shaun Smith and Steve Macauley.

There is now the possibility of the game being sold out within 48 hours as Crewe fans and residents want to see what all the fuss is about.
