Rising star David Vaughan flew out with the rest of the squad yesterday firmly believing that a draw at the traditionally intimidating Lokomotiv Stadium will set up a great game in Cardiff on Wednesday.
He told The Sentinel: "I think if we get a result over there or get a draw then we've got a good chance of getting through, bringing them back to the Millennium Stadium.
"Russia was a good draw for us in the play-offs, as we've missed some of the bigger nations, but we've still got to beat them."
Vaughan is unlikely to start against the Russians, despite usual left back Gary Speed moving to midfield to replace the injured Mark Pembridge in midfield. Grimsby defender Darren Barnard is expected to be playing left back and Ryan Giggs should take up his usual role on the left side of midfield for the Welsh.
Former Crewe player Robbie Savage has declared himself fit for the encounter after an achilles injury had threatened to rule him out.
All the best Vaughany.
